Brave folk Skydive for Charity!

On Sunday 22nd September, four brave supporters will be taking to the heights and undertaking a tandem skydive to raise money for us!  Lauren Booker and her partner Zak Flint have much experience of the neonatal unit with their children and they were keen to give something back so initiated this idea of a skydive!  They will be joined by Charity Supporter, Paul Tibble, and Charlotte Godber who works on the neonatal unit.  If you would like to support these daredevils, they would really appreciate sponsorship to make the daring challenge worthwhile!  Follow the link to our event page on Virgin Money Giving and click on the person you wish to sponsor!

Great North Run – Support us Please!

With just over 2 week to go until the Great North Run, 6 of us are completing our final preparations for the big day!  Clare & Neil Harris (founders of the Emily Harris Foundation), Phil Beardsley, Claire Maddon, Kirsty Fairbain-Wint and Matthew Carr have been training and rallying their friends and family to sponsor them in an attempt to raise in excess of £2000.  If you feel able to sponsor any of us, please find our pages on Virgin Money Giving by searching for the name, or follow the links from our Charity Event page.

Business Wanted to Sponsor vCreate!

Some of our regular followers may remember that the neo-natal unit launched the use of vCreate in May last year and it has proved to be a resounding success for families who find themselves with a baby on the unit.

vCreate is a secure video messaging service that allows staff to send video updates to parents for those times when they’re unable to be with their child.  Upon discharge, all the videos can be downloaded by parents to keep and they are then wiped from the system at the unit.  Over the past 12 months, the feedback from parents who have benefitted from this technology has been overwhelming. 

We would love to be able to continue to provide vCreate.  It costs £4320 for the year for enough licences to ensure all parents can benefit.  If you own a business or know someone who does, you could elect to sponsor vCreate for the unit and have your company logo displayed on all the videos that are sent to parents.

Crisp Packet Recycling Scheme

In conjunction with the Terracycle Recycling company, we are excited to launch our Crisp Packet Recycling Scheme.  This simply involves everyone collecting their empty crisp packets and donating them to us!  We will then send them to Terracycle who will recycle the packets and allocate points to us dependent on the amount of packets sent.  These points will then be converted into cash donated back to us!

Any brand of crisp packet and any size is accepted.  The only things we cannot accept are popcorn bags, crisp tubes, pretzel bags or meat snack bags.  All general crisp packets can be donated.  Simply flatten them and pass them to us!

Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge – Fundraising Opportunity!

One of our supporters, Craig Stinson, has arranged a trip to undertake the 3 Peaks challenge in Yorkshire, on Saturday 8 June from 8am to 8pm.  The challenge involves climbing Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough, walking approximately 26 miles along the way!  The challenge is to complete it in 12 hours.  Craig is using a company to guide the challenge and there will be around 90 people taking part, all raising money for different charities.  If you are considering a challenge and would like to raise some money for us in the process, this is a great opportunity!

We have been donated 5 vouchers each to the value of £75 for Philip Anthony Photography based in York. Each voucher includes a FREE photoshoot PLUS £75 to spend on any photos that you like! The voucher is valid for the next 3 months. We are offering these to the 5 highest bidders who submit a bid by Thursday 14th February at 12noon. Launay’s Charity Dinner – Thank You!

Thank you to everyone who came along to the Charity Dinner at Launay’s Restaurant on 1st February.  It was a great evening and the feedback has been very positive!  We enjoyed fabulous food, a table quiz, raffle and auction, along with a silent auction that ran throughout the night.  Thanks to the generosity of everyone who attended, we raised a total of £1119 which is fantastic!

Launay’s Charity Dinner – 1st February – Book Now to Avoid Disappointment!

Smarties & Cedar House Day Nurseries

For the year 2018, we have been fortunate to be chosen as the Charity of the Year for the Smarties and Cedar House Day Nurseries in Mansfield.  Staff and parents from both Nurseries have been working hard all year to raise money, walking, running, selling and hosting events!  It was a pleasure to be able to attend the Christmas celebration at Cedar House and receive a cheque for an amazing £6000!!!  Thank you to everyone who contributed to this fantastic amount.  The money is going to be used to refurbish the playroom on the neonatal unit where siblings will be able to play when parents are visiting their baby.

Giving Tuesday – 27th November

Giving Tuesday is a day dedicated to encouraging people to support charities in any way they can.  This year it takes place on Tuesday 27th November.  To mark the occasion, we will be having a stall in Kings Mill Hospital, selling cakes and encouraging people to give – both in one-off donations and also committing to regular giving.   If you can help by making cakes, we would love to hear from you!  Please e-mail Clare at admin@emilyharrisfoundation.org for more information.
