Virtual Balloon Race Fundraiser

Category : Events

As we are currently unable to host any of our usual fundraisers, we have gone virtual!  We would love you to get involved with our first virtual event, which is a Halloween Virtual Balloon Race!

Balloons can be purchased from now until the race begins on 31st October.  Once the race starts, real weather conditions are used to determine how fast, how far and what direction the balloons travel in.  At the end of the 7 day race, prizes will be awarded to the balloons that have travelled the furthest.

In the overall race, 1st prize is £500, 2nd prize is an iPad and then there are 10 prizes of a £10 book token.  We will also be offering a prize for 1st, 2nd and 3rd balloons bought for the Emily Harris Foundation, so watch this space for more details in the coming days and weeks.

To buy a balloon (or balloons!), please click here!

You can also customise your balloon – decorate it and name it, as well as change the thickness of the balloon and amount of helium in it so that you can optimise your chances of winning!!

Please share far and wide and encourage as many people as possible to get involved in this fundraiser!

Thank you!

2.6 Challenge

Category : Events

We are very excited to be encouraging people to get involved in the 2.6 challenge which was launched today.  This is a UK wide challenge encouraging people to get involved with fundraising from home (or within the government’s social distancing guidelines!) at a time when all mass participation fundraising events have been cancelled and many charities are limited with what they can do to bring money in.

Quite simply, you just come up with a challenge that involves the numbers 2.6 or 26, let your family and friends know what you are doing and either get sponsored or ask people to make donations to see your challenge.

For more information and ideas, see the 2.6 challenge website here!

To set up a fundraising page for us, click here!

Be as creative as you like and don’t forget to let us know what you are up to and send us some pictures!! You can email us – admin@emilyharrisfoundation.org or follow us on Facebook and send us your pictures through there!

Cake & Chat Challenge

Category : Events

We have been feeling pretty useless over the past few weeks as we are limited with what we can do to support the neonatal unit during this time.  We are no longer allowed to go to the hospital at all and haven’t therefore been able to do Cake & Chat for over 4 weeks.  Clare has therefore decided to take on a challenge to run (on the treadmill in our garage!) for the same amount of time over the coming weeks that she would have spent doing Cake & Chat.  Clare started the challenge on 6th April when her target was 6 hours of running.  That target has now increased to 10 hours but in the first week and a half, Clare has accumulated 2 hours and 40 minutes of running so far!  The target will increase by 2 hours for every week we are unable to go to the hospital.  Clare will continue to run as often as she can, totalling up the time with the aim of having run the total number of hours we have missed (whatever that will end up being!) by the time we get back.

If you would like to sponsor Clare, you can visit her Virgin Money Giving page here.

To follow her progress, check out her blog which will be updated after each run, here.

Co-op Local Community Fund

Category : Events

It has now been five months since we became one of the Co-op Local Community Fund projects and many Co-op members have chosen us to be their local cause.  Thank you to everyone who has done so – it really does make a difference even if you think you don’t spend much in the Co-op!  Every penny really does add up and we have currently raised almost £350!  If you are not a member or have not chosen us as your local cause, then it’s not too late!  Funds will continue to be raised for us until the end of October.  Membership costs £1 and means that when you buy any Co-op branded products, 1% of what you spend goes to a local cause (that’s us if you choose us!) and 5% comes back to you as money on your card that you can spend on anything in the Co-op store.

To become a member and/or choose us as your local cause, please click here!  Also, please do spread the word and encourage family and friends to do the same!

Great North Run 2020 – Applications Open!

Category : Events

We are delighted to have secured five guaranteed places in this year’s Great North Run, taking place on Sunday 13th September.  We are now accepting applications for these places.  We ask that successful applicants raise a minimum of £200 (preferably through a Virgin Money Giving page) as this will cover the cost of the entry and a running top, whilst ensuring the Charity also makes a little profit.  For more information or to request an application form, please email Clare – admin@emilyharrisfoundation.org.

Completed application forms need to be returned by 4pm on Tuesday 18th February 2020.  Applicants will be advised on or before Tuesday 25th February 2020 as to whether they have been successful or not.  If we receive more than 5 applications, names will be drawn at random.
